Abstract : Ayurveda in its classics in general and Caraka samhita in particular has reference to many plants which could be used for alleviating different types of skin diseases (KUSTA). Caraka samhita has a mention of 124 species belonging to 109 genera and 57 families of which 97 species belonging to 89 genera and 49 families occur in Karnataka State. Data on plants used in treating skin disorders in general and Karnataka in particular have been provided. The Sanskrit names, updated botanical names and local names are mentioned. The data will be useful for those interested in pharmaceutical and clinical research besides survey of medicinal plants.
