Abstract : Diabetes mellitus is a common chronic endocrine disorder. Since ancient times a number of herbal medicines have been used in the treatment of this disease. Many studies have been carried out in the search of suitable plant drug that would be effective in Diabetes mellitus. The pharmacological actions of active principles obtained from various plants have been studied in India and abroad. This article reviews some of the better planned studies, which include herbs like, Karavellaka; Palandu; Bijaka; Vata; Agnimantha; Chandra prabhavati; Kumari; SUNTI; Parusaka; Parpataka; . Amlaki; Methika & Rakta chandana etc.
