Title :  HEPATO PROTECTIVE ACTIVITY OF ETHYL ACETATE EXTRACT OF  ACACIA CATECHU
Abstract :      Hepatoprotective activity of ethyl acetate extract of Acacia catechu (Khadira)  (katha)  is  studied in rats. The  accute  liver  damage in albino rats is induced by a single subcutanious administration of 4 ml/kg dose of 50% v/v carbon tetrachloride in olive oil  and the chronic liver damage by 2 ml/kg twice a week for 14 days. The hapatoprotective   activity   was  monitered   biochemically   by estimating serum transminase, serum alkaline phosphstase and seum bilirubin  in both the cases after intraperitoneal  injection  of ethyl  acetate  extract  of  ‘katha’ (250mg/kg).  The histopathological  changes  of liver samples were  compared  with that  of  control.  The extract of  katha  inhibited  the  carbon tetrachloride induced liver damage in albino rats at 20mg/kg b.w. as assessed by the biochemical and histopathological values.
