Title : EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE AND PH ON THE EXTRACTION OF TOTAL ALKALOIDS FROM CATHARANTHUS ROSEUS LEAVES.
Abstract : The effect of temperature on the isolation of total alkaloids from the dried leaves of Catharanthus roseus (Sadapuspa) using the method of partitioning of alkaloid bases and their salts between organic and aqueous phases has been studied. The study revealed that as the temperature at which the isolation process was performed, was increased the yield of alkaloid also increased by 0.30 percent to 0.38 percent. Isolation was also done at two different pH 8.5 and 9.0 and a little effect was observed on the yield of alkaloids; the alkaloid yield was increased by 0.07 percent and 0.13 percent, respectively as the pH increased from 8.5 to 9.0.
