Title : EFFECT OF CERTAIN PLANT EXTRACTS AGAINST THE MOSQUITO, ANOPHELES STEPHENSI LISTON
Abstract : Extracts of leaves of Leucas aspera (DRONAPUSHPI), Ocimum sanctum (TULASI), Azadirachta Indica (NIMBA), pulp of Allium sativum (LASUNA) and rhizome of Curcuma longa (HARIDRA) were tested against colonies of Anopheles stephensi. The results indicate that the extracts of L. aspera and O. sanctum are highly toxic to the mosquito larvae. These extracts are also deterrent to adult mosquitoes. Further the extracts of TULSI, Wheat and Neem can be used for disinfecting water.
