Title : PREVENTIVE EFFECT OF EUGENOL ON PAF AND ETHANOL-INDUCED GASTRIC MUCOSAL DAMAGE
Abstract : The antiulcerogenic activity of eugenol, a natural compound obtained from Myristica fragrans (JATIPHALA) has been discussed. Gastric ulcers, induced by administration of two ulcerogenic agents, i.e. platelet activating factor (PAF) and ethanol, were dose-dependently and significantly reduced by eugenol (10-100 mg/kg, p.o.)pretreatment. Eugenol was able to reduce not only the number of ulcers but also the gravity of lesions.
