Title :  KSHAR SUTRA IN ANCIENT CLASSICS.
Abstract :          To find out a suitable drug which can replace SNUHI latex for the preparation of Kshar-Sutra, various agents like KALKA of Ghrita Kumari, Gum acacia, Gandhaviroja, udumbar, Amaltas, Guggulu etc. were tried. None of them were found suitable to replace SNUHI latex in terms of quality of thread and efficacy. So it is necessary to find out a suitable agent which can replace the use of Snuhi latex in the preparation of Kshar Sutra. The advantages & disadvantages of various types of Kshar Sutra have been discussed.

Guggulipid (gum of Commiphora mukul (GUGGULU)) therapy, significantly (p less than 0.001) reduced the mean serum cholesterol level. Botanically, Brihati is identified as Solarium indicum while Kantakari as Solanum surattense (KANTAKARI). In this study water decoction of Brihati and Kantakari were prepared and studied to evaluate their efficacy in the patients of Shvasa (bronchial asthma) and Kasa (cough). CITRAL: A CYTOTOXIC PRINCIPLE ISOLATED FROM THE ESSENTIAL OIL OF CYMBOPOGON CITRATUS AGAINST P388 LEUKAEMIA CELLS.

Title :  CITRAL: A CYTOTOXIC  PRINCIPLE ISOLATED FROM THE ESSENTIAL OIL OF CYMBOPOGON CITRATUS AGAINST P388 LEUKAEMIA CELLS. Abstract :      Cymbopogon citratus (BHUSTRINA) is described as pungent, bitter, sharp and hot in Ayurveda.  It is used in fever, vomiting and rheumatism.  The essential oil obtained from C. citratus  and its isolated principle viz., citral have been tested for cytotoxicity against   p388 leukaemia cells.  The cytotoxicity of citral, IC50 against p388 mouse leukaemic cells was 71 micro g/ml. This is the first report on cytotoxicity of citral and indicates its possible exploitation as a pesticidal and chemotherapeutic agent.
