Title :  INDIGENOUS DRUGS FOR DIABETES MELLITUS
Abstract :      Extracts from several plants were prepared and evaluated against induced diabetes in animals an in some diabetic patients. From plants like Allium cepa (PALANDU), Allium sativum (LASUNA), Ficus bengalensis (VATA), Gymnema sylvestre (MESHASRINGI) etc., active hypoglycemic constituents were isolated and their mechanism of action studied. Most of them stimulated blood insulin level in NIDDM patients as in diabetic animals. Information on few commonly ant diabetic plants with proven activity have been reviewed ~
