Title :  HYPOGLYCEMIC ACTIVITY OF MELIA AZADIRACHTA LINN. BARK
Abstract :      The hypoglycemic activity of different extracts of Melia azadirachta (MAHANIMBA) bark in normal and alloxanised albino rats was investigated. Significant hypoglycemic activity was observed in aqueous extract of the bark. NIMBA bark is a constituent of TRIKANTAKADYA SNEHA mentioned for KAPHAJA and VATAJA PRAMEHA (Caraka Chikitsa, 6/39). Susruta prescribed NIMBA KASAYAM for SURAMEHINAM. Apart from nimidin (bitter principle from neem seed oil), it’s TIKTA, KASAYA RASA, LAGHU GUNA and KATU VIPAKA may explain its PRAMEHAHARA (antidiabetic activity).

Abstract :      The effects of germinated barley (YAVA) foodstuff (GBF) derived from the aleurone and scutellum fractions of germinated barley low-lignified hemicellulose were examined in Sprague-Dawley rats with constipation induced by Loperamide by addition to the diet (2 mg/kg body weight). Bowel movements were higher in the GBF-fed rats than in the cellulose-fed rats used as control. Fecal water content was also higher in the GBF-fed rats. The concentration of short chain fatty acids in cecal content, especially butyrate, was signi...

The total phenolic content, determined according to the Folin-Ciocalteu method, varied from 169 to 10548 mg/100 g of dry product. Antioxidant activity of methanolic extract evaluated according to the beta-carotene bleaching method expressed as AOX (deltalog A170/min), AA (percent inhibition relative to control), OR...
