Abstract : Pergularia daemia (UTTAMARANI) found throughout the hotter part of India and is in use as a folk remedy for jaundice in Orissa. To examine the claim, leaf juice of P. daemia with yoghurt was administered adlibitum in graded doses to rats before, during and after CC14 administration (2 ml/kg, 25 percent V/V in liquid paraffin-IP-two injections). Leaf juice failed to produce significant effect on the changes in liver weight and liver volume and biochemical parameters studied. His-to pathological examination of the liver showed that in rat~ receiving higher dose, liver damage was comparatively less.
