Title :   ANALYTICAL EVALUATION OF PROPRIETARY AYURVEDIC COUGH SYRUPS
Abstract :          Five market samples of cough syrups were taken for the qualitative physical and chemical analysis. An audit was also done to find out the common ingredients present in the preparations. Chemical analysis for alkaloids, tannins, phenols, flavanoids, saponins, natural steroids, sugars, proteins was carried out with prescribed test methods. The present study showed the market samples do not contain synthetic steroids antihistamines and narcotics. The qualitative analysis showed various phytochemicals at varying concentrations.
