Abstract : The production of saffron (Crocus sativus) (Kesara), an important ingredient of Ayurvedic and Unani systems of medicine, occurs primarily in Jammu and Kashmir State. The botany, distribution and trade of this crop along with estimates on production and socioeconomic impacts in Kashmir are discussed.
