Title : PHARMACOLOGICAL PROFILE OF TENDER COCONUT WATER
Abstract : Coconut (Narikela) water is cheap and easily available in coastal areas. The high nutritive value and streile nature suggests its valuable therapeutic application. Autocleving increases the shelf life with out affecting its nutritive value. Intravenous administration of TCW (100 ml/kg) in dogs decreased serum Na+ levels and increased K+ and Ca 2+ levels. ECG did not show any evidence of hyperkalemia. It did not show effect on psychomotor and analgesic activity. Repeated administration also did not reveal any allergy or anaphylaxis. It is naturally available cost effective highly nourished fluid, ideal for parenteral substitute fluid.
