Abstract : The lower cardiovascular disease is some times attributed to consumption of beta-carotene found in many fruits and vegetables. Supplementation with alpha tocopherol was associated with only a minor de crease in the incidence of angina pectoris. Beta carotene had no preventive effect and was associated with a slight increase in the incidencce of angina.
